Why Shouldn't Gonzales Be Sworn In?

Republicans on the Senate Judiciary today were united in their insistance that Attorney General Alberto Gonzales not be made to testify under oath about the administration's warrantless domestic surveillance program.

My question: What's the point of having a hearing if the key witness is not under oath?
