I'm Not Sure What to Make of This
From this week's Time:
Could be funny; could be tasteless and offensive. I guess it depends on the context. At any rate, the quote, "Were you the only black man in Salt Lake City?" got my attention.
Through the challenges, the President has kept his human touch. Touring New Orleans last week, he met a man who had survived for days on canned goods before being evacuated to Utah. "Were you the only black man in Salt Lake City?" Bush asked.

He probably wasn't far from the truth. The LDS aren't known for their ministry to African-Americans you know.
LDS for better or worse, does try to gain African-American converts. I lived in Salt Lake City 1970-77, plenty of black people there.
This was a:
"See, I'm not racist! I am sooo not racist, I can openly joke about race!" comment.
Plus, I don't think Bush is a racist. He is a raging Classist (and impersonates a homophobe, I doubt he cares who is gay, but he sure knows his base does)
