Tuesday Religious Reading
- United Methodist Church, Five Historically Black Methodist Churches, Take Baby Steps Toward Unity (UMNS): Bishop Nathaniel Jarrett of the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church says that the fact that there is a table with five American Methodist strands surrounding it indicates "some of the suspicion no longer exists and a real sense of fellowship is enjoyed."
- Christian Coalition President Elect Steps Down in Dispute Over the Group's Agenda (NY Times): Rev. Joel C. Hunter, the Coalition's would-have-been leader, dared to suggest that the group should take on radical issues such as poverty and caring for God's creation. His colleagues wouldn't have it.
- King James: A Gay Christian Ahead of His Time? (OpEd News): This story is partially in response to recent measures North Carolina Baptists have taken to purge their church of gayness.
- Colorado Neighborhood Association Threatens to Fine Woman for Peace-Sign Christmas Wreath: "The subdivision's rules say no signs, billboards or advertising are permitted without the consent of the architectural control committee." The committee was OK with the peace-sign wreath, so the president of the neighborhood association "fired all five committee members." After all, "peace on earth" has no place in Christmas decorations.
