Friday Links: Mammoth Marsupials and Contrite Canadians
- Giant Kangaroos and Wombats Once Ruled Down Under (Reuters): "Marsupial lions, kangaroos as tall as trucks and wombats the size of a rhinoceros roamed Australia's outback before being killed off by fires lit by arriving humans." Paleontology is still wicked awesome.
- Canada Actually Apologizes to a Guy Wrongly Arrested as a Terror Suspect (Globe and Mail): Syrian-born Canadian citizen and engineer Maher Arar, who was mistakenly labeled an Islamic extremist, sent to Syria, and tortured, gets a $10 million compensation package. (That's in Canadian dollars, so don't be too impressed.) Our government, unfortunately, refuses to accept Arar's innocence.
